California-based multidisciplinary artist Cyrani Ackerman grew up in Berkeley, surrounded by the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the Bay Area. She earned her BFA from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco before moving to Los Angeles, where she spent many years as an Art Director in the entertainment marketing industry. During this time, she continued to refine her skills in painting and ceramics, blending her professional experience with her passion for hands-on creativity.

In 2023, Cyrani left her corporate career to fully dedicate herself to her artistic practice. Now based in Silverlake, she shares her creative haven with her wife, their dog, and two cats, all of whom inspire her daily.

My ceramics practice explores the intersection of fragility, resilience, and balance, using hand-stained porcelain as both material and metaphor. Porcelain, with its luminous surface and delicate strength, becomes a canvas for narratives that balance the tension between the ethereal and the grounded. This contrast underscores the dualities inherent in our shared human experience: vulnerability and strength, silence and expression, tradition and rebellion.

Each piece begins with a deliberate act of coloring the clay—an intimate process of kneading pigment into the porcelain, creating a depth of tone that feels intrinsic rather than applied. Through forms that are at once functional and sculptural, I invite viewers to engage with the quiet complexity of the work.

My mixed-media paintings weave together complex issues of social justice and contemplation through a lens of curiosity and play. By combining layered textures and unexpected materials, my work bridges the serious and the surreal, offering a space to reflect on the world’s challenges while imagining its possibilities.

My work is a call to slow down and notice the small, intentional details—an invitation to reflect on the stories that emerge when we look deeply, and to find meaning in the subtle but powerful transformations of material and self.
